Empowering Remote Communities:
Xeni Gwet’in Microgrid Project

The Xeni Gwet'in band of the Tsilhqot'in people in Nemiah Valley, British Columbia, located 100km from the nearest electricity grid, relied on carbon-intensive diesel generators for power. The team at Amp partnered with Xeni Gwet'in leadership to design and implement a state-of-the-art solar and battery storage microgrid.

Steve Schaefer
President

With over 20 years of experience in the energy and solar industry, Steve has been an integral part of Amp since its inception in 2009. He has originated over 700 projects totalling 130 MW throughout his tenure. Prior to Amp, Steve served as the Eastern Canada Director of Business at Centrica (Direct Energy) from 2005-2009, where he helped design and implement Direct Energy Business - an integrated energy solutions provider for commercial and industrial clients. Steve holds a B.S. in Marketing and Finance from Syracuse University and an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the Schulich School of Business. As President, he oversees all Canadian projects and business initiatives.

Doug Jackson

Vice President, Origination

Doug brings over 24 years of senior leadership experience in project management, business strategy and development across multiple sectors to his role at Amp. For the past 13 years, he has focused on the rapidly evolving energy services industry. Over the last 9 years at Amp, Doug has pioneered demand-side management solutions and cultivated a growing North American portfolio of private and public sector clients, delivering fully integrated energy offerings including conservation, on-site solar generation, battery storage, and microgrid systems. Doug holds an Hon. BA in Law from Carleton University.

Jake LeDoux

Senior Manager, Project Delivery

With over 20 years of solar and roofing experience, Jake oversees Amp’s project operations. He has completed over 300 retrofit and new construction roofing projects, as well as 150+ solar installations totaling over 50MW across residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural, and military markets. Jake serves as the project liaison, coordinating across internal teams and external contractors, suppliers, consultants, landlords, and regulatory authorities. He holds multiple professional certifications focused on construction safety and accessibility standards, and a technical Diploma in Renewable Energy from Durham College.

Don Yhap, Manager

Structural Engineering

With over 30 years of construction experience, Don brings deep expertise in building design and safety code compliance to his leadership of Amp's structural engineering practice. Prior to joining Amp 14 years ago, he spent 17+ years at a structural consulting firm focused on new projects and renovations nationwide. His expertise spans computer-aided drafting/analysis, report writing, project management and comprehensive knowledge of building codes. Don's combined practical and theoretical background in structural engineering enables efficient and successful project delivery.

Giovanni Cristofanilli

Technical Officer, Design & Engineering

Giovanni holds an Industrial Engineering Diploma in Electrical Technology and Automation (Italy). OACETT member with over 14 years of experience in the solar photovoltaic industry. Giovanni began his career in Italy as Electrical Designer and Construction Manager for EPC contractors. Prior to joining Amp, Giovanni worked as Project Manager for OYA Solar, responsible for the Design & Engineering and Project Management of commercial rooftops and ground mount projects from 100kW to 4MW. He also supported the Development phase with the design of over 300MW ground mount projects in the US. Giovanni joined Amp in 2017, where he led the Design and Execution of a Micro-Grid Project (250kW PV-1MWh BESS- 3x95kW Generators) for a remote First Nation Community in BC and since he joined supported the Development, Design & Engineering and Execution of commercial projects in Ontario and the US.

Olta Cibuku

Research & Strategy

Olta is an accomplished energy professional with over a decade of sustainability and renewable energy experience. Holding a BA in Finance & Economy and a master's in Energy Law, she began her career in management consulting at Boston Consulting Group and Deloitte before transitioning to the Regional Environmental Center, where she advised governments on environmental, renewable energy and green infrastructure policies. Olta joined Amp over 10 years ago, establishing the ESG department, heading Strategy & Research, and contributing to operations and investments. She has founded the Women's Network, co-founded the Collective for the Advancement of Connected Buildings, and advised GRESB on Net Zero initiatives. Currently, Olta leads the Women in Renewable Energy Italy Chapter while supporting multinational decarbonization efforts.

Kurt Robertson

Origination

Kurt is a veteran business leader with more than 30 years of global sales and marketing expertise. Throughout his career, he has successfully launched over 100 innovative products across various markets. Since 2016, Kurt has been collaborating with Amp Canada as a consultant, focusing on originating energy projects in Northern Ontario. His extensive experience and track record of bringing new ideas to fruition make him a valuable asset in the renewable energy sector.
